Baptism of Infants

Baptism is the first Sacrament of Initiation incorporating the individual into the Body of Christ. In the gospel according to John, Jesus says, I am the vine and you are the branches.

The Church has from early in its life baptised infants based on the faith of the child's parents.

For baptism to be celebrated at St. Therese at least parent needs to be a baptised Catholic.

Celebration of Baptism
The Rite of Welcome is celebrated on the second Sunday of the month during the 9:00AM Sunday Mass.

The Liturgy of the Word, Preparatory Rites, Baptism and Explanatory Rites are celebrated on the third Sunday of the month after 9:00AM Mass (10:00AM).

Godparents
The Church allows for a maximum of
two (2) godparents only.

At least one godparents must a Catholic who is baptised and confirmed. They should be active in the practice of that Catholic faith and should be present in your child's life.

The other godparent needs to be a baptised Christian.

You may have:

  • a godfather (male) and a godmother (female)

  • a godfather only

  • godmother only.
